Ozokerite Wax

Ozokerite Wax

Ozokerite or ozocerite, archaically referred to as earthwax or earth wax, is a naturally occurring odoriferous mineral wax or paraffin found in many localities. Lacking a definite composition and crystalline structure, it is not considered a mineral but only a mineraloid.

ozokerite, also spelled Ozocerite, (from Greek ozokēros, “odoriferous wax”), naturally occurring, light yellow to dark brown mineral wax composed principally of solid paraffinic hydrocarbons (compounds chiefly of hydrogen and carbon atoms linked in chains).

Ozokerite Wax are predominately complex hydrocarbons formulated together into this specialty wax, custom blended to the customer’s need. The name is a reference to its origin as a wax by-product of bituminous coal mining operations in Eastern Europe.

With decades of formulation experience meeting the needs of diverse applications, Strahl & Pitsch has developed a full range of Ozokerite Waxes to meet your requirements. These waxes are engineered with an emphasis on their physical characteristics and end-use functionality.

Consistent from batch-to-batch, the focus is on customer’s critical needs. Melting point, hardness, viscosity, colour, gel strength, and plasticity are all considered

Ozokerite Wax is typically offered in higher melt ranges of between 60°C and 95°C and is non-hazardous. It is compatible with most vegetable and mineral waxes, as well as vegetable oils, mineral oils, and petrolatums.

Ozokerite Wax will increase viscosity, assist in emulsion stability and enhance gel strength in liquid and semi solid systems. It is a hard wax with a relatively high melt point. These characteristics encourage its use in lipstick and lip care products to promote structure and stick strength.
